this was a very disgusting noise to hear out of my baby😢 i have a 2001 cherokee sport and i just left to go to the gas station. when i pulled up to the pump i noticed my parking brake light on which has never happened. when i tried to shift from drive to park i heard a very bad hardcore grinding noise as soon as i got to neutral so i went past neutral and reverse was fine and it did the sane this when i shifted to park. i quickly shifted back into drive and shut the engine off then shifted into park and pulled my key out. i have no idea what to do now or what that noise was.

i started it back up and everything seemed okay.
anybody know what that could have been?

 

I had the same issue today with my 98'. I'm also going through some electrical issues but I'm 99% sure they are a separate issue.
