Grinding into 4 Lo

Is there a "trick" to not grind going into 4 Lo? I have just installed a SYE and all seemed to go well. The only way I can get into 4 Lo is to shut off the engine.

Yep..........at a low idle. Grinds bad.

do you put it in 4hi first i know with mine if dont put it in 4hi first it will grind going in to 4lo
