Greets all.. I'm an ex-pat (east coast) living in europe now.
Went from a CJ back home to a '98 XJ with 120k mi
on the clock here. Haven't parted with my money just yet, but
it looks clean, no off road, older fella' who knows how to keep
good care of his stuff; no rust, squishy bits look good, and a
nice set of tires.

and I get a light duty trailer as part of the deal!

(but they put this crazy italian engine in these things,
a 2.5 VM that I'm told are a nightmare -- but given the cost
of gas, if I want an XJ, this is what I get)

Anyway, great place you folks have running here.. been
reading for a few days and see no end in sight.

So a couple of questions for you guys who've been around the
block with these XJ's, if you don't mind, of course.

1. the guy ripped the AC out!? i guess parts are expensive here?
mentioned some problem about it running all the time anyway.
says some bushings wore out, he couldn't find them except import
from US and just decided to take the thing out. How bad is this?
other than I have no AC, I mean.

2. it has an 'electrical' heart attach every now and again.
he says its 1 in a 100, but wasn't a big enough bother to get
fixed. says its a "loose contact" that has to be hunted down.
power goes out.. engine stays on.. but power goes for a minute
or two.. windows don't move, gages drop to zero, that kind
of stuff. then he hits a bump and it all comes back on.

So I'm asking the experts: are these deal breakers?

holy smokes, I only posted yesterday and I'm 4 pages deep!
*bump*

can anyone shed some light? I've heard rumors that the electrical
issue could be a loose harness connection. I realize these are shots
in the dark -- but am curious if its something "typical".
