Got a free head. With a broken bolt hole..... PICS NOW UP
Its the hole on the pass side of the head right near the front of the engine.
Looks like somebody beat the bolt out and snapped off the metal around the hole. (see attached pic)
what mounts to that hole? Is the head any good or should I just throw it in the scrap pile?
The metal over the top of that hole is broken off and you can see the threading going into the block.

Your AC bracket would bolt up there.
Is it any good? Too many variables there. How many miles on the motor .... how are the valve guides ... how are the valve seats .... etc etc.

Upon closer inspection I'm gonna say this head is scrap. It came off of an old engine abandoned in the woods next to the mangled shell of an XJ. A couple of guys were trying to haul the engine out off the trail but we couldnt lift it so we took the head off to make it lighter and got the head/block out.
From looking into the intake/exhaust ports i can see mud/leaves/and other crap so i think that this thing was underwater for a few weeks to a month during the spring floods in this area. Everything in there is all rusted to hell.
If anyone in the CT area wants this thing and is willing to come pick it up its free. If nobody wants it ill just toss it in the junk pile behind the house.
Ill try to get some pics up in a bit.

Any idea which head it is? Seems like it should be a 7120, but I'm not sure. The number I'd be looking for will be on top of the head, outside the valve cover rail, in between the #3 and #4 exhaust ports. It's a four-digit raised number.

gimme a minute ill go check the number.
EDIT: Yep its a 7120.
My Grand Am is currently down with a rust hole in the firewall that leaks onto the computer wiring and stalls the car so ill toss the head in the trunk for now. After that the best I can do is wrap it in a big trash bag and put it in my unheated/uninsulated storage room on the outside of the house. Maybe I can convince my parents to let me store it in their shed if all else fails.

Lemme kick a few things around - perhaps I can work out a train partway, and get it back to CA sooner or later. Part of the advantage of having family all over has got to be moving stuff around - mum just got a sewing machine from Scotland - the seller flew it over here from London, my kid sister picked it up at Dulles, and will be taking it back to IN in a month or so...
No need to rush. I usually dont throw things away. especially heavy cast iron cylinder heads. Next day i have off i'll throw it in the grand am's trunk (it's on my workbench now) and once i get that back on the road ill spray it down with oil and wrap it up and put it in my storage room.
Some places have some pretty bad rust but i'll do my best to keep it from spreading. I also have the pushrods/head bolts if you want those as well.

@MIKE1998XJ - Sectioning and determining just how far you can push the porting, analysis of casting thicknesses, porting experiments, and "apples to apples" comparisons of various castings. I've got a 2685, a couple of 2686, and a 0630 so far - I need to get at least one 0331 (cracked OK, prefer one cracked and one solid) and at least one 7120.
I plan to section one or two cylinders on each head into about 1/4" slices, and pictures & measurements as I go. Then section the rest into "per-cylinder" slices for porting experiments.
I'd like to have a cracked 0331 and a 2002-up 0331 (shouldn't be able to crack) so I can section the #3-#4 cylinder area and find out what they did wrong there.
This is all research for an update to my Power Manual - information on that book is on my site.
