Went to the parts store today to get some tranny fluid to service my 231 TC and couldn't find any merc/dex 3.
All that they had was dex 3/m , merc/dex, merc/ dex 4&5.....plus the usual atf+4 ect,ect.....



Now I've read threads stating that merc/dex 4 is the new 3 but , I do know that I don't want atf+4. Could you folks help me understand this? With the cost of fluids anymore I just want to do it right and be done with it. Help me properly maintain my baby please lol. Btw, I went there for Rotella 10 w 30 and a quart of mmo. Nothing major going on thus far......thanks to you folks.

 

dex 3/m is Dexron-3/Mercon which is what you're "supposed" to use. That's what I put in my XJ. I think that's what I grabbed at least. Now you have me second guessing myself, haha.

 

Sorry lol....I'm looking to do this stuff tomorrow after work....and snow is in the forecast.....I kinda figure my XJ will behave a little bit more for my suffering lmfao.

They had those up there too.....but I only really need two quarts though. Guess it just threw me off with the whole "Ford and GM" thing. Thanks man.
