I have a 2000 4.0 sport. I have 12.73 volts at the battery. It will not crank, there is not even a click. With the key in the ignition, and the door open, it does not beep as it should. Nothing inside works. No power windows, door locks, radio, interior lights, headlights.
--it does nothing. turn key, nothing, dead...I checked 3 fuses---ign acc/run - ign run/start - battery acc--all good

If your battery's voltage is stable, it's not that you're losing voltage. If that were the case, the battery would be losing voltage while the XJ sat. I would check that your battery terminals are clean and use a terminal brush JIC. If you don't have one, they're really cheap and very useful. Then check that the wires going to the battery have a good connection. I had bare stranded wires going into the connectors and it was causing an intermittent complete loss of power. I added a couple eye terminals and my problems disappeared. If all of that checks out, it's pretty likely that you have a ground issue. Start checking the major grounds and let us know what you find out.

ok, I'll check all connections and report back tomorrow. won't have time today. thanks
found it--bad ground wire at the battery--cut the end off the corroded wire and put a new terminal on. Thanks.
