Default Going through batteries. Alternator?

So about 2 days ago on the nicest day in cincinnati, my Jeep doesnt start. I turn the key, it clicks, then nothing. Gauges come on later...then radio spits out CD. I had a friend bring me a BRAND NEW battery and it started right up. Then today it did the same thing, but this time it was after i turned the electric on, letting the radio play for MAYBE 5 MINS... before i started up. Spits out the CD, resets mileage... So instead i unplugged the wires from the battery for about 10 seconds, reattached them and off i went like nothing happened. Is it the alternator or should i just be looking for a bad connection???

First, verify that your charging system is charging your battery properly. What is the voltage gauge on your dash reading? With a healthy battery and charging system, should be in the 13.5 - 14.0 volt range.

If charging system is okay, then concentrate on all electrical connections AND grounds.

Clean battery terminals until shiny. Freshen your engine grounds, (disassemble, clean, reassemble) paying special attention to the one from the back of the cylinder head to the firewall, the small braided line often disintegrates and / or loses contact.

first buy yourself a cheap volt meter, they are available at places like Walmart and sears for about ten bucks. Then watch this video. Its very simple.
