Going freaking nuts
Hey guys. I've got a 99 cherokee. changed the tranny filter and fluid about 1 month ago. Put a new filter in,gasket and buttoned her up. It has been leaking from somewhere ever since. I have rtv'd it 3 times, and also put a new gasket in it on the last attempt and it still leaks.
Here is the odd part. It only seems to do it when I make one specific right hand turn on my hour ride home from work. It looks like it is coming from the inspection plate in the front, but I have no idea wtf could have happened. I put in the recommended amount of fluid, and have even run it very low on the dipstick with the same results. I am stumped. Any thoughts? I was wondering if there is some sort of breather on these trannys that it may somehow be leaking out of.
Thanks

more RTV <> better seal...
A good seal is 2 flat and clean mating surfaces. To figure out WHERE it is leaking it would be best to clean the trans off and let sit overnight. You should be able to find out where it is coming from. Perhaps something was knocked loose

STAY away from R T V on any TRANSMISSION, it is a death sentence once any of it gets inside - ( it can stop up a internal gallery - and than you wont be able to make any turns ) Always, Always a clean mating surface and NEW gaskets and the proper Pan torque { I work for an Allison Distributor & if a customer comes to use with a unit under warrenty & we see R T V = The warrenty is VOIDED for this reason }

Try to get a heavy duty rubber pan gasket (do not use cork) and make sure you did not over tighten the pan bolts and bend the bolt hole on the pan up where the bolt goes through the pan. If you did you need to get a small strip of wood or a flat surface and tape the holes back flat and reinstall using the torque specs for the pan bolts and do not use RTV.
Well, after searching on here, it seems as though it's the seal in the front of the tranny that people are talking about. It is coming from the front of the tranny from behind the inspection plate. Before I rip the tranny out this weekend, what seal is it I'm getting to replace. I'd like to have the part before I start working on it. Thanks

I've never done one in the AW-4 but on most auto transmissions you have the front pump seal (the one the torque converter slides into) and a smaller seal that goes on the input shaft.

My guess is the fluid is collecting and when you turn it dumps out?
