Well, I figured I'd update with some more of the work I got done. Still waiting for my buddy to swing by later to help me with that damn driver's door speaker. I got the driver's side rear hatch 6x9 installed. Looks damn good and clean if I say so myself

Hooked it up, sounds clear and good. Awesome! Word of advice to you fellas though: Asthma and fiberglass dust don't mix very well lol.
I haven't installed the passenger side yet because I gotta run out here in a few. Hopefully that'll get done this evening.

This kinda stuff always takes a lot more time than you expect... and if you're mad, it takes twice as long again.....
Swapping the + and - to a speaker will not prevent it from working. If you have them crossed up on a speaker, you just don't get the same bass as if it is hooked up correctly. With the doors open, you won't even be able to tell the difference.
If you have a meter, check for continuity from the speaker connector at the head unit to the wires at the speaker (both ends disconnected). You need continuity (like 0 ohms) from one end to the other of each wire. You need open circuit between the wires. If not, that's when you need to go looking for the problem.

Forgot to update this. First of all, I had checked all speakers prior. Using a known working wire. All speakers were fine.
The short was behind the driver's side kick panel, just after the little clip that connects the speaker wire to I'm guessing the head unit wiring. See my build thread for more details and picture of where the short was. But yeah, after that it was all butter.
