...I believe this is a phrase I've seen on here posted more than once (I think by a guy who has a motorcycle as his avatar?) regarding the cooling system.

Well, after a stint in my '01 where I was having serious ongoing problems with my cooling system (temps, leaks, rust...) I took that fella's advice and just decided to swap out the lot - rad, water pump, t-stat, hoses, fan clutch, coolant.

Admittedly, didn't do it myself, as I'm definitely not a wrench monkey. Just bought the parts and gave them to a local Arab guy who got the whole job done in a day.

And now? Runs absolutely perfect. Guage sits nicely around the middle, even when idling for extended periods in this horrid 50 deg C desert heat. And, most importantly, no more sleepless nights.

A big thanks to that man - best advice I've seen on this forum. I'd recommend it to anyone who may be similarly chasing problems with their cooling system.

I would seriously place high bets that the guy you're referring to is djb. Lol, I see his name jump up on every thread that has something to do with the cooling system, and he knows his stuff well. Glad everything is working great for you!

There are plenty of folks on here that have forgotten more than I know about a lotta things......and as "Larry, the cable guy" is famous for saying, glad u "got 'er done". Having a complete new cooling system on the XJ is one of the best natural sleep aids I know of. LOL

djb - I'd hoped my post would flush you out! Thanks again - my and my '01 have now kissed and made up after weeks of fussin' and fightin'!

Seriously, my life was a giant crock of s*it whilst the Jeep was out of whack.

You can't get ANYWHERE round these parts without your own transport - hardly any reliable taxis, third world bus service, can't bicycle anywhere as either the heat or the crazy driving of the locals will soon kill you off!

The Jeep is my DD, so it needed to be working right, or else I'm not getting into work and on my way out of Qatar after getting canned.

Took a peek under the bonnet a couple of times and, using the advice I'd picked up off you guys on this forum, identified rotting hoses, a suspect fan clutch, a leaky rad and a dodgy rad cap.

Went for broke, changed everything in one fell swoop and now runs like a dream.

Couldn't be happier!
