"These words he speaks are true. We're all Humanary Stew! We don't pledge allegiance to The Black Widow!" --Alice Cooper

Make sure you get bombs that have IGR (Insect Growth Regulator). That'll make sure that any eggs don't hatch and larvae (of other bugs) don't pupate and become adults.

Yea, so, guess what, iit’s a 5 speed! WooHoo! I hadn’t even looked at it up close until this afternoon. The original owner, an older guy who died a few years back . He was an old desert rock-hound and found him self in some amazing places. This Jeep took him to most of those places. His wife, who dosn’t drive, thought that it was an automatic.

It’s in better shape than I remember.

After a surprisingly good talk about it with my wife, were gonna keep it mostly original, re-do the front seats and a few odds and ends in the interior. Do a few tasteful upgrades and call it good. It’ll be our adventure vehicle. Not sure of the towing capacity but wed like to tow my motorcycle up into the mountains for a long weekend, or maybe a bass boat.

Anyways, after checking it out, the wiring looks simple enough to resolve. May take some homework but a few hours under the hood and a few trips to the gettin place and I’ll bet I can get her running...

As for the transfer-case, what model would be in this particular Jeep?

Also, there is a plug hanging off of the harness, up near the firewall, on the passanger side. Any Idea what that goes to? I’m guessing some factory option that this model didn’t have.

with the TX case, if u dont want to get underneath and check the tag on the rear of the case (for an NP242)

a 242 will have 2WD, Full Time 4wd, Part-time 4wd, 4wd LO positions on TX selector, and sticker on DS sun visor

a 231 will have 2wd, Part time 4wd, and 4 Lo...no "full time 4wd" on selector

for the loose plug...photo?

Good idea to keep it, chances are you will have a hard time finding another one. Once you get it running, don't be afraid to sink some money into it to get it where you want it. I'm not saying to crazy with add ons, but make it yours, and capable of doing what you want it to do.

If you are going to tow, you will want to check the weight of the items you are towing, a motorcycle on a small trailer should be ok to tow. Might not be a bad idea to look into changing the ratio of the rear axle. I think the manual came with the 3.07, automatics came with 3.55, which may be better for towing.

Chances are the plug under the hood not being used is probably an under hood light.

Maybe start a build thread to showcase what you are doing, it looks like it will be a great project.

Well, it also looks like you're halfway to a HCV elimination with the broken vacuum line there..

It's got an AX15 -- keep that Jeep!!

What is the point of deleting the Heater Control Valve?

And yea buddy, Im keeping it for sure. :-)

And yea, a build thread is a great idea. Ive never done anything like that before but I’ll give it a think...

I have a boneyard in town and they have a 95 grand Cherokee with a NP231 for 300 bucks and I can get the fuel rail. Injectors and the wiring for the injectors for about 40 bucks.

THey also have a few interior parts and hte blinker light and bumper end caps (or whatever they are called) available too. I might even pick up the front seats and the sun visors while I’m at it.

Kinda exciting... It’s gettin real, gonna arrange for towing in a couple days...

Do yourself one favor, just make sure you can get the title for it, before you tow it. Getting a title can be a pain, depending on what state you live in.

Amen on the title business.. I’ll get the title before the Jeep goes anywhere. Im in SoCal so it’d be a real pain and expensive if I couldn’t. Nearly $400 in my state.

From your photo it looks like you've got the NP231 transfer case in there - I can't see a 4PT setting for the lever but it isn't 100% clear.

The HCV is fragile and was deleted by Jeep themselves in later years. When it breaks (the plastic goes brittle with heat) you lose your coolant.

Nice jeep! you're going to have some fun!

that’s about twice or more what a 231 goes for around here . Before writing this I did a search and found one asking 150 bucks with 87k on CL
