Default Gen light-no start

Gen light would go on and jeep won't crank. I have power to lights and such and in order to start I need a jump. It's only needed after sitting overnight, not off in short instances. Just making sure is it the alternator?

Replace the battery. If the engine runs after jumping it the alternator is working.

Went to autozone to have them check the alternator, says everything checks out. We had an issue where it would sputter while driving with the gen light and check engine light flashing with the sputters, then would die, so I told my brother to juice my battery with his and it ran fine. The guy at autozone suggested There might be something touching and draining my battery overnight, possibly the stArter he said. So i removed the negative and in the morning will see if it starts or not. Anyone with a similar situation?

i had a similar issue but mine was shotty wiring by PO, i replaced and upgraded all "essential" wiring, ie to starter and alternator and battery, this helped but then the alternator went... i would start with the easiest and cheapest stuff first to help narrow down your issue. also do you have an aftermarket radio? if so disconnect that and any sound equipment you may have to make sure that isn't slowly draining it

had the exact same problem last week. my jeep has always had a engine light on. while id be driving the motor would die, feels like it lost all spark but only for a split second (as the engine light would flicker and every gauge drop to zero for a split second) and if i punched the gas it would usually keep running. my buddy said it was symptoms of a bad battery. so i picked up ne for $20 and it was fine for a full day.
then it started doing it again, still reading a solid 14v on the dash. i pulled the 1 wire that comes into the middle of the distributor and leads the the box right next to it. gallons of corrosion fell out as soon as i pulled it off. along with the other 6 spark plug wires.
i cleaned them all up the best i could and i haven't had the problem since.
hope this helps, check them wires
