Ok I have a set of 4.10 gears I am going to install in my XJ. My friend told me I might need a new carrier because I'm going from 3.55's to 4.10's. I have a dana 30 and a chrysler 8.25".

 

You will need a new carrier for the 30, 8.25 doesn't have a carrier break so it's good.

 

Where or how would I find a new (to me) carrier that would work? I do a lot of gear installs at work but it's usually because something broke and its getting the same gear ratio back in it. When I change the gear ratio the people usually know what they want and they bring the gears and most of the time a locker. I had no clue that you had to change the carrier.

 

4:10 in D30 is often found in 4 cyl Cherokees. Perhaps the local auto recycler yard?

You can get them brand new online for around 50 bucks and then you don't have to worry about condition like you do with used.

 

Or you can buy a true locker/carrier assy but that is more $$.
