Gearbox support
Hi
My first post so hear goes!! I have a 2000 xj 2.5 Diesel manual with a knackered clutch. Do I have to support the gearbox/transfer box before I remove the crossmmember which looks like it supports them? Also I have sheared off one of the crossmember bolts [before I noticed the box might need supporting!!] what is the best way to remove the other 3 without shearing them off?? I have smothered it in WD40 [releasing fluid] but will some heat help?

WD40 is not adequate for such situations. While it does displace water, it does little or nothing for rusted bolts and nuts. Get you some PB Blaster or something similar and if you use heat, make sure you heat what the bolt is screwed into and not the bolt itself.
P.S. Most penetrating oils are highly flammable, so be careful.

My Jeep has been a salt belt vehicle since new, when I had to change the trans mount I was worried I was gonna snap the bolts also. What I did was two weeks before I did the job I soaked the bolts in Aero Kroil (the nector of the gods for rusted bolts). I sprayed inside the frame rails where the bolts are at and tried to hit them. When I went to remove the bolts I started by turning a 1/4 of a turn, soaked the bolt, retighten the bolt. I did this process over and over again until the bolt was out. When it was finally out I anti seezed the crap out of them.

Yes, support the transmission (gearbox) and transfer case.
I used a jack to support them, the jack failed, and I almost got my head crushed.
Be safe, make sure you are not under it when the last bolts are taken out.
