Default gear question?? yah another one....sorry

alright i got a 92 xj and i was thinking about junkyard 410's out of a I.4 xj. i was wondering if i gotta swap whole axles or if i can just thro in the carriers and gears? into my existing d30, d35. thanks, all input would be greatly appricieated !!! yah i know its another gear question . but i just cant find nothing searching it...

It will be lots easier and maybe much less expensive to swap the complete axle assemblies. You will need new carriers, unless you have a C8.25 rear. Setting up gears is not for the Novice and can cost $500 or more per axle to have it done.

you can swap the whole axle assembly, but you can also throw the gears into your exhisting housings, but you need to know how to do gear work to do it properly. i would just use the 4.10 housings if you're going to go that route.

well i have done several diff severices ( full replacments ) . but ur saying i can just thro in the the carriers and gears right into my existing housings .

if you hav set up gears b4 you can as long as your front are both hp i did it to mine for the price of the rears and pinion seals and gear oil 140.00 gear up grade keep all the old stuff case you break an need a dd for work

it is easier to just swap the guts IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING!!! the parts will go in ..... just make sure you have a dana35 rear....i have not seen a 4banger with the 8.25 rear

^^^^ thanks alot for the info . also another stupid question haha. um whats the difference between the h.p 30 and a plain jane 30 . .?? yah im pretty excited i just found a donor jeep and it has 410s for FRRRREEEEE! . cuz i did some research a while back and u were the one that inspired me to find a 4cyl xj and rob it of its axle hahaha .

yah its got dana 35/30 . cuz eventually down the road ima 8.8 the rear . but for now i neeed gearing badly haha. so i figured i could just swap the guts thanks again for the input.

high pinion the other is low pinion the hih is better less angles on shaft when i did mine i just used all the shims from the 410 set worked perfect for the front and rear

all of ours are high pinion (HP) until 2000 they went to a low pinion front..................simply refers to the location of the pinion in the front pumpkin..(there is more to it but i'm tired and going to bed lol)

one more thing your rear is a clip rear some years were non clip its a little better to not have the c clip rears 84 to 89 are non c clip

cant wait!!! i even have a housing spreader laying around somewhere. but i herd u can do it without one?? ive done done so many chev/ford diffs i cant even count eny more but this is my first jeep , i have done a few diff setups on other jeeps but not without a spreader.
