You're thinking in the right direction, going with a lower gear ratio will increase torque at the wheel for a given RPM, which will result in less right foot on the skinny pedal to maintain speed. And you will also find that you gain some of your bottom end back after putting on 33's

Stock with 225/70s and 3.55 I got about 16city/22hwy for CDN gallon.
Went to 31s with 3.55 and got 11/15
Installed 4.10s and I am back to about 14city/18 hwy
Don't have to hold the throttle open on takeoff from lights anymore.
Don't think I'll get back to stock 16/22 though.

I don't know yet, I'll get back to you in a week or so. Here is a good thread on MPGs- https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f67/ge...es-mpgs-78465/
It's kinda died of, but I for one would like to see it live on!

Gearing will improve the MPG. Is the cost of gears and install cost more $$ than you will saveon gas???? Do the math, how many MPG do you have to improve to save $1656, my bet is it will be more than the 2-5mpg improvement you might get. Small tires for the street MUCH cheaper. If you want to gear, gear for off-road performance, you will never make your money back in MPG savings.

This MAY b true for some people that are getting like 11 or more but.... those of us that are down to 8 it is not true but spending 1200 bucks is justifiable to me to get my 14mpg back!!! To me its not a matter of trying to make the 1200 back on gas savings, its purely the fact of getting further on a tank of gas!!!
