If you are using the stock carrier that the 3.55 gears came on it will not work. You need a new carrier for 3.92 and up gears.

There is no carrier break on an 8.25 axle. So your advice does not apply here. The carrier break you are suggesting is for a Dana 44 axle.

99Jeeper ... you bought the gears from someone, right? You should start by asking the reseller. Sometimes saving that 10 bucks is more money in the long run.

At any rate ... the answer you need, is that you are required to grind away at the gear until the pin fits in. The deeper the ratio, the thicker the ring gear is. Basically, you will need to notch out the very corner of the main obstructing tooth. Additional grinding maybe be needed on the teeth fore/aft of the offending one.

Done this dozens of times with no issues.

Fire up the compressor and grab your carbide grinder and go to town.
