2nd gear lock out
I have a 96 AW4 and this is what I did. I mounted a toggle switch next to the shifter. Turn rhe toggle switch around 180 deg so the down (normal position is normally closed. Now open up the dash cover under the glove box and look at your transmission computer (TCU). Locate the wire that comes out of the TCU and feeds solenoid #2. I don't know what color it is off the top of my head but if you need I can get that for you. Cut this wire about 6 inches from the TCU. Solder a wire to the wire comming from the TCU and run it to the switch and connect it to one side of the switch. It does not matter which side. Now connect another wire to the remaining side of the switch and run it back to the wire that used to connect to the TCU. What you have done now is installed a switch in series with solenoid #2. When the switch is closed (normal position) everything will behave as stock. When you want first gear only: put the gear shift in the 1-2 position and flip the switch up (open). This will prevent the transmission from shifting in to 2nd gear.
