Anybody know how to use the tag on the diff cover or the numbers on the ring gear to figure out what gearing the axle has?

 

Forget which corner but you'll usually see a series of numbers.

Like 3 55 3 73 4 10 etc.

 

Oh, and on the gearset divide the number of teeth on pinion into ring gear.

A dana gearset should have the ratio on side of ring gear as well.

 

Or turn one of the rear wheels,for every full turn of the wheel have some one count how many times the drive shaft turns...1 turn of the wheel and around 3 1/2 rotations of the drive shaft is 3.55 gear, 4 turns to one wheel rotation 4.10 etc
