yea, because buying a $800 beater is going to make or break the american automakers.

regear it. it will cost as much as a beater, you only need to buy insurance for one car.

I bought a daily driver before, It just sat there, I drove my xj most of the time anyway (spooled on boggers)

i still say get another car. that way you can work on the jeep as long as you want and still have another car to drive. buy some junkyard axles with 4.10s and throw those in on the weekend.

Spoken for truth. You never know when you may need to tear down your junk for a few days to do a rear main, head gasket or hell put a decent lift on it. That is why Tess and I have 3 vehicles so if one is down we still have transportation.

The profits of all auto makers don't end up in just one country, think of the jobs created by the japenese companies. They are here to save money as well, but are making jobs for our countrymen and women. What you fail to see that everyone in this country, especially if you shop at large retail outlets can see most items that are purchased are manufactured in the far east. So no matter what, the money will end up there. But, people in the far east are consuming U.S. products all the time, and at a far faster rate than the US does!

Did you ever notice how many american fast food chains are over there? Their society is getting fat right along with us. Walmart is in china, japan, thailand and everywhere around the world. Honestly, on the scale the world population consumes all items like food, fuel, clothing, autos, etc, It would be stupid to not import/export. Simply put, if the USA tried to be completely self sufficient, and didn't import or export anything, ALL recsources would be depleted in less than 50 years. I would imagine it would be a different story if immigration was outlawed in say the 50's. Obviously that could never happen because ALL of our ancestors are immigrants, even the native tribes, the crossed the ice bridge at the bering sea. Outlawing immigration is comparable to removing our 2nd ammendment rights.

The bigger is better gluttonious mentalty that us americans are destroying our country has spread like a disaese across the planet, and it will be only a matter of time before gluttony and overpopulation will be the death of us. Not anytime in our lifetimes, mind you, so continue doing what you are doing, I know I probably will one way or another.

Now that I am off my soap box, My opinion is re-gear, unless you have a beater you can get for next to nothing so when you are done with it, you can drive over it before you take it in for scrap.

Oh yeah, go ahead and come after me for my rant. If I am wrong I will be willing to be re-educated. Just don't go off half-cocked before you know the facts

Would you buy an American POS product if it was more expensive than a better Japanese one?

Diamler/Chrysler was the co. meaning all profit went to an american car co. Being that I bought it used all the profit went to a guy named Jean @ Kars with a past.

I dont believe I'm "half cooked" in any way. My experiance is my father worked for Chrysler, and father in law works for Ford. I live in a region that is highly effected by the auto industry. I have seen a great decline in sucess and growth in the past 10 years and many plant closings. For this my opinion is scuewed. The profit goes to run a co.overseas is what my statement is. As far as free trade. I would like to see the numbers. I do agree far to many people have been living beyond their means. With a biggier is better mentality. At least we agree that a re-gear is in order.
It would cost less than any make of beater.

I have a little sedan so I bought the xj for winter use and home depot runs. I am hoping to balance the driving over the 2 of them. should be about 5k miles a year on the xj- hoping the thing can at least handle that.
