Default Gauges shutting off while driving

Got a 1991 xj sport with 4.0 ... I noticed my gauges shut off when I step on the throttle harder than just cruzin ... the lights stay on but the gauges drop like the motor was off.... what you guys think?

I had the same problem and I cleaned all the ground connections under the hood and cleaned all the connectors in the fuse/relay box. Problem solved. Damn, I wish I knew which connection was causing the problem.
