The gauges on my 99 cherokee limited work most of time, but once in awhile they will all go dead, sometimes only some of them go dead and the airbag light comes on, but if I flip some switches ( fog lights/defroster/rear wiper) that'll make them all start working again....sounds crazy and it is....driving me crazy that is, anyone else have this happen? if so how did you fix it?
Mine did it on cold mornings for 5 minutes. They had a common problem with corrosion at the electrical plug at the back of the cluster (According to AllData TSB's). I pulled my cluster out and found this to be the cause of my problems. All I did was clean the contact points and put dielectric grease on the plug and put it back together. Hope this helps!
There are a couple of other threads on this issue. As noted it's the gauge cluster contacts that cause the problem.
Some people find slapping the top of the dash on the right side helps, for me I just push in gently on the lower bezel and everything works. (98 Cherokee)

That happened to me a while back. It only happened on cold mornings or if I hit a big pot hole. I havnt done anything to fix it cus it hasnt done it in about a year now. But I thought I remember someone saying that sometimes the wires pull out of the back of the cluster just enough for them to stop working.

All of the aforementioned quirks stated above help the gauges to resume. Mine has done it three times this winter when it has been 15 degrees or colder out. All the gauges die and just the airbag light is lit.

I got kinda annoyed with it once and punched the dash, that was a mistake, they really went crazy, it took awhile but they straightened back out and stayed on for a long time.

I've only actually had this jeep for a few months, the day I bought it, it was snowing like a madman and has been cold ever since so maybe it is just cold related, I'll have to wait and see I guess, it'll be several more months before I see any signs of spring.

It gets pretty cold were I live and while the overhead is great (especially the outside temp) the best part is the heated leather seats, I go out in the morning to start it, turn the seat on high, by the time I'm ready to go it's all toasty warm, what is the difference in transfer case? I had a 93 country before this one, but I don't remember if it had part time or not which is nice, I have a 1/4 mile driveway that's slowly turning into a "jeep trail" sometimes I really need that extra traction.

I wish I had the limited with the better transfer case and overhead counsel.
