Default gauge question

i have a 1998 stock cherokee sport. When driving all of a sudden airbag light comes on and i lose all my gauges. If i honk the horn just under the airbag symbol everything comes back on any suggestions anyone else have this problem?

Has the vehicle ever been in a front end collision? Check for damage or signs of repair to the radiator core support, frt bumper mounts, frame, and frt fender suports. Chances are if it has been wrecked, then the PO may have used a hack body shop to do the work. If the repairs were done by an unqualified shop then there may be wiring issues with the airbag, provided the airbag was even replaced if it was deployed in a front end collision.

Common problem on '97 and up Cherokees. Do a search for solutions. It generally involves pulling the gauges out and cleaning the contacts.

Hey Mallory, the same thing was going on with my 99 XJ. The airbag light would come on then the guages would drop. I would hit the dash above the guages and they would start working again. All I did was pull the guage cluster out and spray some contact cleaner on both ends of the connectors, then plugged the guage cluster back in. I did this about a week ago and the guages have been fine since. Hope this helps.
