My 91 XJ Sport with the 4.0 liter 6 has a 20 gallon tank. I'm pretty sure all XJ's from 84-01 are the same size.

It's either 13.5 or 20. The easiest way to find out would be to run it near empty (maybe even carry an extra gallon of gas) or completely empty, and then fill it up.

Odds are in favor, but playing devil's advocate....it was an optional feature from the dealer.

I believe starting in 89-90 the 20 gal was standard.

My '87 is a fossil. When I overhauled/detailed the interior, I found a coupon for $5.00 off an oil change (I change my own oil, didn't really care about that part.) That expired in 1992....

I wouldn't suggest running it empty..could cause more issues then you want...His jeep is a 98 so it's a 20 gal tank.

Since it is newer, that is a fact, but for an older XJ, easiest way would be to run it down to 1/4 or 1/8th tank and fill up, that would make it easy to figure out.

Yep as long as it is a carb based engine yes, but on a fuel injected engine I wouldn't even consider it.

Theres a modification to make your 20 gallon tank hold 25 gallon. It's on my list of things to do before my next trip out west.

I'd link the article but Go-Jeep's website looks to be down at the moment.

I tried to link ya Bowtie... the site seems down. Very popular dude that goes by Go-Jeep from Australia who has a great website with a ton of content.

believe it's www.go-jeep-xj.com

Basically it's relocating the vent, similar to the YJ mod.
