Gas pedal adjustment
Does anybody know if I can adjust my gas pedal to make it firmer? More resistance? A roll of quarters could push my pedal to the floor and it's quite annoying, especially on a bumpy road and I imagine worse when I get out to the trail. How do I adjust that?

you didn't mention what year it is. one way would be to replace the spring on the throttle body/carb that returns the throttle to idle. yours could be weak. i don't know about the newest cherokees. they might have an electronic throttle without a cable, if so look for a spring on the gas pedal.

i have a 95 so i can't be sure about a 99. open your hood and look at the throttle body. move the throttle by hand. there should be a spring somewhere that pulls it back to closed position. the spring could be weak or broke. if there isn't a cable running to the throttle body it could be electric throttle, meaning that there is a sensor on your gas pedal that sends a signal to the throttle servo telling it to open or close the throttle. if this is what you have, all pedal resistance will come from a spring somewhere on the pedal not the throttle body. heavy boots will make a pedal feel soft as well.
if there is nothing wrong with the spring (either location) you could probably come up with a stiffer spring. if you 99 has a cable control (not electric control) you can just attach another spring to the throttle and attach the other end to something stationary on the engine, but make sure you have it pulling in the correct direction. parts stores usually have a good assortment of multi purpose carburetor springs.
