Hello, I have a 97 Cherokee with the 4.0 litre engine. I installed a K&N cold air intake system recently, it increased my horsepower and torque. Unfortunately, it decreased my Gas milage from 17 to 13 city. My driving has not changed at all. Any ideas? Any ways to help? Everything will be appreciated!

yea unless you did something wrong it should of increased it..i just put in a airraid and have gotten at least 2-3 mpg better

 

CAI +XJ=waste of money there are very little to no gains with an intake as the stock one flows well and draws cool air from behind the headlight.

put the stock on back on, remove the intake silencer in the tube put in a good filter sell the K&N on craigslist

Agreed. A cold air intake will have minimal HP, If any, gains and I don't think it increases torque at all. MPG gains are minimal in the XJ because the stock location, as mentioned above, already provides a source of cool air for the engine.

 

Yes the factory air box does supply cool air, but it was restrictive and didn't supply enough air even when the fitter was new

 

How is a clear tube that's the same size as the throttle body not allow enough air into the motor?

 

There was no clear tube, what model has that.

 

I believe irongrave meant clear as in unobstructed, not see through.

 

....and that info is based upon what????????, a Wall Street advertising/marketing dept. claim?????
