Default Gap between knuckle and ball joints?

I am torqueing down the ball joints I just replaced to 75 f/lb and there is a bit of a between the ball joints and the knuckle. Is this expected? 2000 XJ.

My 97 is the same way, but i used Spicer. Same gap. The lower is less noticeable as the boot is much bigger, but still a gap if you poke at it. I dont know what brand the old ones were, but they were the same way.

Nothing to worry about.

Has it been in an accident or wheeled hard?
The axle C's could be bent.

Any number of firms sell reinforcement plates.
