Default Fused Lug Nuts

My dad and I went into the shop to do ball joints and brakes. Ended up taking us three-and-a-half hours just to get one lug nut off on the passenger side. Tried pounding on smaller sockets, heating it and cooling it, and drilling out the stud (which the drill didn't even touch ). Finally ended up taking an air hammer with a chisel and cutting around the stud. Got that wheel off, but the problem is that we have four lugs fused just as bad on the driver's side! If anyone has any other things we could try, let us know!

I have an impact called the "Earthquake" from Harbor Freight and I have yet to find a bolt or lug nut I can not get of with it.

heat + pb blaster...if that don't work, cutoff wheel and replace the studs.

Impacts are weak. I have a one inch that can not brake bolts! Granted that's at my grandpas farm on equipment. But if I can't get a bolt to brake I just use a 3 foot beaker bar and pull up. If you still can't get it. Put a pipe on it to get some more leverage. With a 3 foot bar I'm pretty sure my little sister could brake a lug nut loose, or just snap it. I have snapped lugs off our Case Skidder with a 3 foot bar and those studs are twice as thick as my Jeep.

It's the "impact" in impact wrench that makes it effective. It breaks the bond using short powerful bursts.

Had this same issue when my dad let the $20 used tire guys put
tires on my sisters Honda van. Had to snap 4 of 5 of the lugs
on 1 wheel. and 1 on another wheel

For sure try the gun first but if it don't work a bar and a little sweat will create more foot pounds then a gun. But use caution if your not use to working on stuff like that you don't want to bust a knuckle or worse yet brake a nail!

Yep, that's what we've been using. My dad is a mechanic and we were using his brand name tools with the air system at his shop.

I had a buddy that runs a wrecker service tell me to take a candle and melt it and let it drip on the back of the nut. Then heat the nut up. He says (and its on youtube) that it will lube up the stud and they are easy to take off then.

I worked in a tire store when I was younger. We just snapped off the studs with a breaker bar, and replaced them. Just remember the anti-seize when you put them back on.

dont anti seize the lug nuts, you dont want them to be able to come off easier than what it should be. if you just rotate your tires regularly that will be enough, and if you want more insurance the the lugs wont freeze up like that then break them loose once a week and re-torque them, thats prolly good practice anyway
