I am trying to install a transmission temp gauge it says to connect orange wire to positive headlight switch power source. Which one would that be on a 95 xj. Is that gonna be under my steering wheel or in the engine bay fuse box.

 

I assume this is to power the backlight so it comes on when you turn your headlights (or parking lights) on. The power for the gauge itself needs to be from a switched source that turns on with the key, so someting like the cigarette lighter on the driver's side is what I normally use. For the backlight wire, I'd recommended tapping into the parking light wire rather than the headlight wire, and do it under the dash where it comes out of the back of the switch or where it does into that big junction block closer to the middle behind the dash. I don't know what wire it is, but you could do some tracing and likely find out.

 

Personally, I'd take the backlight supply from the dash lights, to retain the switching/dimming.
