Ok so heres the crazy thing and odd mixture with my newly bought xj.... while driving it just cuts out. Its easiest way to describe it. I can be driving and the engine just dies. The tack will go to 0rpm, however the mph will stay at where ever... it seems to do it more in town rather than on the high way... i was told that i need to get a new ecm/ecu, it still drives just is very annoying. also if you spray a can of air duster (upside down)on the wiring and the ecm vents itll start right up. I check my gauges frequently and my temp gauge is on average 170ish on the high way and right around 210 in town. the volt gauge sits anywhere from what seems to be 12.4 to 13.2. and oil pressure is steady at 35-40. i guess the real question is should i persue the faulty ecm or should i just start lookin other places.

 

Try cleaning the harness with electrical cleaner and then putting di-electric grease in it.See what that does.I have had a couple electrical issues and nothing but this worked evry time so far.My blinkers would'ntr blink and my windows would'nt go up or down and my power locks would'nt work.I did this and all is well all 3 times.

 

The cutting out issue is also typical of a crank position sensor beginning to fail. Any codes on this when it happens?
