Funky acceleration problem
'96 Cherokee SE (automatic):
My jeep was very slow out of first gear. Basically I would press the accelerator, but the jeep would barely go (engine did not rev normally in sync with gas pedal though). It was like I had to press the accelerator almost all the way to the floor just to get going. Once out of first gear though, it was fine.
This only acted up this way for about half the day and then it was fine. Any ideas? Seems very strange to me!
The transmission fluid level is fine. I checked the fluid at operating temp and in neutral as required.
I changed the fluid about two months ago. I used Pennzoil ATF for vehicle previously serviced with Dex III/ mercon brands. Like I said it is fine once out of first, but just getting to first is a PITA.

What is TPS and how can I address this? Can I do it myself? I am a learning DIYer and have replaced the water pump and rad hoses on my jeep so far. If it is relatively within reach I will try...so what is the TPS?
Will this throw a CEL? I do not have a CEL at this time. I do however occasionally get a O2 sensor code.

the tps is on the front of your throttle body, it is a black plastic thing with wires coming out of it. its very easy to replace. just 2 screws. but they cost $77 for an auto and $97 for a manual
