Injectors in case your interested at some point for the upgrade,And yes I would cap the return line and save it for now in case you have to return to the factory setup.
you sir are my personal hero for the day. thanks so much!

I will need to change injectors more likely than not. higher pressure=more flow over for a given injector pulse. The injectors I have would probably flow more gas and make it run rich. Thats still to be seen though.

I understand the injector swap netted you some gains but changing everything out for the higher pressure doesn't seem worth it to me.

Then again I do know people who drop 10k on a new engine just to pick a 1/10sec in the quarter mile.
97+ XJs don't get better milage or make more power because they have a more restrictive exhaust to meet emissions standards post ODB2. They infact changed the intake manifold to a more free flowing style to gain back the lost power from having to meet those standards. Putting one of the 99-up intake manifolds on a pre-ODB2 XJ is proven to gain around 20hp and about the same for tq numbers.

I'm swapping for more than one reason, one being the higher fuel pressure. The other being the tank & pump style. I hate the front mounted pump because its a royal PITA to swap out even if you drop the tank. Instead I'm getting one of the newer poly tanks and making a hatch in the floor to gain super easy access to the pump and sending unit. For the $40 I'm paying for the parts I think its way more than worth it.

You afre on the right track with the fuel rail and intake. If you go with the 97 and up fuel tank, it has a single line and the regulator is in the tank. Very expensive to replace by the way if it goes. The pump and regulator are one assembly. So if you go with the corresponding fuel rail from a 97 and up you will be fine.
