Default fuel tank leaking

so on my way home from work i filled up my 97 cherokee.
got home, parked in the garage and about 10 minutes later went out, through the garage, to get the mail and i smelled gas really strongly. noticed that there was a slow drip from the tank. any ideas? unfortunately its raining here so everything underneath was wet making it hard to tell where it was actually coming from. never noticed this before.

any thoughts????

thanks guys

Well if it were me I would move it outside- gas leak = bad. Gas leak inside your garage (that is attached to your house as you said you went out through it to get mail) = worse.

Hopefully it is just an overflow leak from filling up, but move it outside, please!

Check where the sending unit is maybe it's a bad O-ring or the tank is just rotted,

test it by lighting a match near the tank... if it goes BOOM.. you know where the leak was...
works every time..

X 3.......Most likely, O-ring around where the fuel line and pump wiring go through or if you live in a part of the country where the roads are salted, it could be rotting through anywhere.
