Fuel tank leak, specific question
OK, Here is the situation: I've got a leak where the barb fitting (for the fuel sending line) goes through the circular metal plate on the unit. Given that the tank itself isn't pressurized much, can I remove the unit, clean up around the fitting, and JB weld it? I simply don't have the money to replace it yet. For the time being I've just been filling up no more than half way

Yessir, but let me reiterate, it's not the o-ring/locking ring seal, not the fuel lines themselves, but where the barb fitting passes through. Actually, here is a pic indicating where the issue is. Rather, the smaller one is leaking, I suspect from all the leverage of the weight of the pump/filter etc.

Well after having a not so fun time replacing my own fuel pump recently AND knowing now what they cost ( found my cheapest on rockauto.com AND it was a made in U.S.A Carter pump) I would say it's at least worth a try. If you get it good and clean and you let it set up good it just might hold you over til you can do a full replacement.

OK, now that I've put a little more thought into in, I'm thinking soldering might be a good idea too, maybe with JB weld on top. Only issue would be making sure the solder flows properly, and sticks. What do you guys think?

OK, after some planning and checking out the area I've got a final plan. I'm going to get a small piece of steel tube, large enough to fit over the barbed fitting. Gonna weld it in place around the barb as a collar. Then I'll fill the area in between with JB weld (which is oil/gas resistant.) That should be decently strong and hold for a long time.
The more I thought about it and asked a few peoples opinions, soldering would not make a good bond on steel.
Anyways, I'm gonna do this on Monday, so I'll let you all know Tuesday if it worked!

I have just found out the hard way that my tank is leaking from a similar area. I had just replaced the tank thinking that it was the original problem but I guess not. How where you able to tell for sure that that was where your tank was leaking? I don't want to go through the hassle of dropping the tank again to check it really hard. And any advice on how to do mine? I don't have access to a welder. Sorry to steal the thread here
I'll post a picture of where I see the fuel kind of settling now. Before I replaced it there was no way I could tell. Now i can see the fuel dripping on my newly painted skid...
