Default fuel pump replacement help.

Okay so i am replacing the fuel pump on my 88 and i guess im supposed to hit the lock ring on the tank. But i dont know exactly where to hit it. I cant get anything to move. Please help.

when i did mine i just used a flat head screwdriver and a hammer , if i remember rite there was 3 or mabby 4 raised tabs and i worked on one for a minuter and it diddent go so i moved to the next and the next and it finally went

The 88 is a bit different. You don't actually need to pull the tank. You gotta be careful! NO SPARKS! Also less than 1/4 tank...A brass drift is the right thing. I think I found a suitable piece of Oak last time. And Yea, like said, working from one to the next helps because it can bind just going at one. Be real genital getting it out, it takes a little doing. You gotta turn it this way and that carefully as you remove it, you don't want to end up with the filter inside the tank, or the float for the gauge messed up. Good time to take your time.

I pulled the fuel pump on a '91 without dropping the tank it putting it back in was nearly impossible for me so I dropped the tank in the end, and go easy on the lock ring hit all of the raised tabs lightly until it gives
And you will most likely drop the the inlet screen in the tank, I found two in the tank

???Bent? Huh...I thought they were pretty sturdy. Glad you got it! I need to pull mine someday and look at that gauge sender. I saw posted you can clean the deal in there with alcohol, but I really don't know...
