Only 85 miles to a half a tank?

I'd guess the sender got hung up when you reinstalled it. Or is bad.

Are you filling it up and then running it till it runs out of gas?

I'd pull the pump back out and inspect the install.

What year Jeep?

Yep 85 to half tank is pretty good and that's was after i put a new Bosch 02 sensor. It's a 97 4.0 yes i was just at the post office and it wouldn't crank but I heard the pump kick on so i figured it was out of gas so i walked half block to get 2 gallons of gas put it in and cranked right up and drove home no problem.

... My wife's 98 will go 260 miles on a tank. (130 half a tank)

and my 93 will do about the same.

I'd still drop the tank and check out what's going on in there. Something isn't right with the pump.

What would i be looking for i took my time changing the pump and even cleaned the inside of the tank and made sure the seal was perfectly in the tank and slowly put the lock ring on and tightin it down.

Might be defective fuel pump? Should take it back to where you bought it and get it replaced, for free.

Well got in all the parts went together fine. the fuel gauge is a little slow to show how much gas is in it the tank but atleast it works now. Do i need to touch the negative battery cable to the positive to put it in learning mode or just let it sort it self out?

Thanks
