Hey all. I have a 1997 XJ 4.0 with 136K on her. I am trying to get her set up to sell, and I don't think she wants me to let her go. I took it in to get the exhaust fixed, and I notice it seemed to be misfiring and chugging. When I took it in, they said the Check Engine light was on because "No Crank Sensor Position Learn" or something. THen, she started to shudder and stall. I got her to the garage, and the guy doesn't seem to think it is the crank sensor, as he is telling me that the fuel pressure is only at 9 when it should be in the 30-35 range. He thinks the fuel pump is shot, but that wouldn't explain the misfiring. AHHHHH. I have no idea what is going on with it. Any ideas? All help is appreciated, I am going nuts on this!

 

low fuel pressure will DEFINITLY cause a miss. Injectors arent getting enough of fuel to fire a good spray pattern. Check the pressure yourself, 9 seems almost to low to run. If it is low it is the pump or a restrictionn in the line, 99 percent of the time its the pump
