fuel pump
the 'white ceramic thingy' is the fuel pump ballast - apparently only found on Renix models (?) and doesnt necesarilly list in the parts & service manuals (neither of my local dealerships had any clue, at least)
its function is like the ballast on old dodge ignitions - it reduces the voltage under normal running conditions. During startup, the starter causes a voltage drop, and the ballast is bypassed to ensure adequate voltae to the pump, and fuel pressure at startup. ( ie: runs while cranking, and pressurizes the fuel rail) once you let go of the key, and return to 'run' fuel pump voltage is routed through the ballast. if it fails, the pump will turn off, but the initial startup pressure is enough to run the motor for several seconds.
