Default Fuel pump?

I have a 1996 XJ 2dr, within the past few days it has started to have an increasingly rough idle. Yesterday when I went to start it the check engine light came on. Now the engine will only start if I depress the accelerator to WOT, even then it chugs to life before running normal range. If I attempt to start it with no throttle it just cranks. Is this a bad fuel pump? Where is the fuel pump located on my XJ? The fuel filter was just replaced at 118,000 miles, 2.5l w/ 5spd.

The only efficient strategy to troubleshoot an engine with a check engine light is to pull the codes.

Use the technology provided to you by your Jeep. It is not always straight forward to interpret, but it is darn good at pointing you in the right direction and to the right "circuit".

Post the EXACT code number here for comment if you are so inclined........
