I am trying to get the 1988 XJ running after sitting for three years. I have swapped out the tank, fuel pump, hoses, and filter. I have good fuel pressure when cranking and I have spark. I have also tried a new ECM under the dash with no luck. I will be cleaning the electrical connectors and the firewall circuit later this week and have ordered six upgraded injectors. I am curious if there is a relay or fuse that I am not finding that may be causing the cycling issue. Any help or suggestions are appreciated.

Have you tried pouring a little fuel into the throttle body and see if it runs for a couple seconds. Not sure about your model, but cam sensor and crank sensor should be checked next.

It starts with fuel added to the plenum. Crank sensor is good or there would be no spark. I dont believe I have a camshaft sensor, looks like thats a 2000 up model year.

In Renix the gizmo is also called a distributor pickup or sync generator. They'll actually run with them unplugged. Worth a shot.

You getting fuel pressure at the rail? Spark plugs wet with fuel after cranking?

Fuel pressure at the rail (40PSI with vacuum on the regulator), I will double check the plugs but they were dry last time I checked. I have a Noid light on the way, I put my stethescope on the selenoids of the injectors and there is no noise at all when cranking. I will look at the pickup and see if there are any issues there.

Thanks

I wasn't sure if your's had one, but I do know my '92 and anything after that did. It's inside the distributor.

After checking the battery and finding a loose power cable on the battery she fired up. Looks like the C101 and loose power cable was causing the issue. she ran like crap though. looks like a fuel injector is stuck or the regulator went bad. I have a new regulator and just waiting for the new injectors to arrive...

thanks for the help everyone.
