I'm going to try and document my mileage when I change from my 100% stock 97 cherokee injectors to the Neon ones.

Just yesterday day I did my first mileage check (bought the Jeep two weeks ago). This is on a fresh tune up (plugs/wires/cap/rotor) and oil change.
Managed 20.8mpg city (8 miles on highway in 45mph traffic) and rest light to light traffic. Only 73 miles of testing, used same gas station/pump to fill up morning and night. I'm going to try and put a longer run into it and get a longer mileage data point.

For reference:
1997 Cherkoee SE
5spd AX-15
275/60/15 Cooper Cobra
Rest... stock.

Someone correct me if I am wrong but those sound like V8 Explorer injectors. they are 19lb'ers like the Mustang injectors but have four holes where the 'stang injectors just have one.

Just so you are not miss quoted when you say 'just have one' hole is that the newer injectors, like the ones in Mustangs, do only have one hole like the stock jeep injectors but are a different design that works better than the old 4 hole ev6 injectors.

If someone could post up a Bosch part number, I could look it up. I have a list with over 1600 B. injectors listed from EV1 to EV14. There about 200 of these that meet the length and impedance requirements to go into a 4.0 liter Jeep engine. Some flow less than stock, some are close, and most flow more.

I would just like to say that when I purchased my stock 2001 cherokee sport with 121,000+ miles on it this February i was averaging about 15-17mpg highway/11-12mpg city(NYC traffic). I replaced my injectors with Neon 784's that i purchased from a member here (Programbo). I still run stock tires since they are basically new from when I bought them and also a 3" lift.

When I replaced my injectors, i also replaced the spark plugs to regular Champions and changed to full synthetic oil. I now average about 21-22mpg highway (flow of traffic 65-75mph) and about 14-15mpg city. All I can say is that the throttle response is a difference between nite and day compared to when I got it. It runs quieter at speed as well but it might be the combination of the injectors, plugs and oil change.

It has been a month now and my XJ is my daily driver from Jersey to NY. What I also noticed is that different fuel brands give me different results. I have been using regular Getty, Delta, Luke Oil, Exxon, Shell. It seems I get better gas mileage with Exxon and Shell but I pay an extra 5-8 cents more per gallon.

I am about to do this swap as well and will update as soon as I can. Getting about 18mpg with what I have now. A mix of highway and city. No lift, aftermarket headers and exhaust (dynomax with aftermarket precat pipe).

Just did the Computer reset so waiting to see what that does.

Probably the Ethanol content giving different mileage. Pure Ethanol has lower BTU content than straight gasoline. I think it takes 1.25 gallons of Ethanol to provide as much energy as 1 gallon of gas.

I just put my 784's in yesterday. Thanks Matt. I noticed a smother idle, better throttle responce. I am currently doing the milage. i was getting 21.5 and thats babying it. I was at 20.5 mpg, i removed my roof rack just to see if it made a difference and it did; evidently. so we'll see when i filler her up again.

BTW. this has to be the easiest mod i have done on her so far. took about 1.5 hrs and thats with set-up and clean-up.

I used the Ford XR3Z 9F593 A4B out of a 6 cyl Ford '99 Mustang.

Here is where I got the info from: http://www.ausjeepoffroad.com/forum/...ad.php?t=92236

99-01 Cherokee
These have a EV6/USCAR type injector electrical connector That is they are different from the earlier models.
Stock Jeep injector:
22.5lb/hr@49psi (236cc/min@337KPa)
or 21.14Lb/hr@43.5psi (222cc/min@300kpa)
Owners have used Ford 19# XF2E-C4B=204cc@43.5PSI injectors with success, they have the same specification as the #19 ford 280155710 (i.e. 4 hole ev6 style with a nominal working pressure of 39PSI) just with a UScar electrical connector and take clipnuts.

More flow (much closer to the stock injector flow rate than the ford XF2E-C4B) is provided by Bosch #0280155784 (22.5#=238cc@43.5psi), which are the same as the older Neon injectors 0280155703, but with a uscar electrical connector.

Chrysler part # 4669938 from;
DODGE CARAVAN (1998 - 2000)
DODGE NEON (1998 - 1999)
DODGE STRATUS (1998 - 2000)

Another alternative for the stock 99-up 4.0L is the (22.8#=240cc @ 43.5psi) Ford XR3Z 9F593 A4B / XR3E 9F593 A4B which is the newest design and offer even better performance.

(MOTORCRAFT #CM-4956,CM4956 XR3Z9F593AB, XR3Z-9F593-AB, XR3E9F593A4B, XR3E-9F593-A4B, YR3Z9F593AB, YR3Z-9F593-AB=all the same injector)
This injector has a single hole and looks disappointingly similar to the stock 99-'01 injector .
The main method for increasing atomization in the ev6 injectors was by increasing holes number and reducing each hole size. One can't add holes and reduce size indefinitely, so a new approach was needed when regulations became more strict.

The newer design is not relying on number of holes, it's a completely different approach with the difference in the internal orifice which allows far better atomization. This also gives an even better ability to work on variable pressure, as with most newer cars the pressure is computer controlled.
This, in turn, gives more accurate fuel mixture at any given pressure.

You can check the two in your fuel rail, when out, and compare the spray pattern, with the newer the fuel is like a mist.
Currently these can be bought near new for around $60 a set on ebay.

If even more flow is required the “1999 only” Taurus/Sable injectors, 0280155849 can be used.

This EV6 injector will flow 265cc/min @ 43.5 PSI, same as the FMS M9593-A302(24 lb) but with USCAR connector so the original injector clips on the loom will plug straight on..

I would have to say not much if any. I am bad because the Jeep is my only transportation and I don't keep track of the MPG exactly but I do know how far I can drive on a tank of gas. So that said I can say it did not go down for sure and it might have gone up one or two MPG but the throttle response was better and I did notice a little more power such as when I go up hills there is less shifting down to maintain the same speed.

I would do this upgrade again as I got my injectors for $80 off Ebay and the ones I pulled out were very cruddy anyway and needed to be cleaned at the minimum.

My old link did not work. Ebay says it is only good for 90 days. I did find 5 for $10 each http://www.ebay.com/itm/99-04-Ford-M...item3cbd092f2d

Here's a set of 8 Ford 19lb injectors on eBay for 80 delivered. If 4 people want them we can order 3 sets and then split them up. We can get 6 for 60.
