Default Fuel Injector Replacement (not what you think!)

I was wondering if anyone has sucessfully removed the fuel rail on the 98-01 XJ, without disconnecting the fule line? The way i see it i could just unbolt the rail and give it a pull (gingerly) and separate it from the injectors. Removing the clips of course. Just wanted to see if anyone has done it wiothout any ill effects or was it a total pain in the ... and not worth it? Thanks

That fuel line should be secured to the intake manifold with a clamp. It would need to be removed. Then check further downstream you'll see another quick disconnect, and further back the tube is clipped to the frame rail. If you made sure the tube was free to move, you could move the fuel rail a bit, but not recommended. That fuel tube assembly is big bux from the dealer. If you are changing injectors, disconnect the fuel tube from the rail. If you are leak checking injectors, you can sneak the rail back enough for the injectors to just clear the intake after disconnecting everything downstream.

I have done exactly this twice with no harm. I did spray the base of the injectors with PB Blaster first.

X3, I have taken my fuel rail off twice without removing the fuel line. However, I will warn you to be careful and make sure you pull out the fuel rail straight, as in away from the engine. I pulled mine because of a leaky injector, replaced that injector, put the rail back, and had 2 more leaky injectors . Make sure you label each injector electrical harness before removing, lol. And, when you are ready to reinstall, lube up each injector o-ring on the injectors with a bit of ATF

see thats what i was thinking, it doesn't have to move much to clear the injectors once its unbolted from the intake. I just get itred of messing around with the fuel lines constantly replacing o-rings, cause as you know once you disturb it its inevitably going to leak without replacing them. So my thought was the heck with it keep the lines connected and just move the rail to slide new injectors in, wanted some opinions weather its really that possible and so far its looking like yes.

On more thing, when you pull the fuel rail, the injectors come with it. (at least they did for me) As in the engine-side seal is less firm than the rail-side seal. Not a big deal, just thought I'd let you know.
