Default Fuel Gauge

Gauge is reading 3/4 when I fill it up at the pump, when at E i can only get about 12-13 gal. in. Any other way to find out how much gas I have left?

Thanks

Put several holes in the side of the tank starting at the top and work your way down. When gas starts leaking you know where the level is.

A previous owner may have replaced the pump and accidentally bent the float arm or something.

You could pull the pump and check.

don't really mind it enough to pull the pump, just trying to save some trips to the gas station, maybe I can estimate with miles driven. better than reading too high at least

Just go by your trip meter.

My gas gauge jumps between a quarter and half tank off so I don't even look at it anymore. I will typically see around 300 miles per tank with an even balance of city and highway driving. If I'm pulling an all highway trip, I'll get around 400.

Everyone's Jeep will differ in those numbers but if your rig is stock (or close enough to it) you should get something similar to that.

Has the Jeep ever been wrecked? I've seen a number of gauges read just like that the vehicle was in a rear end wreck. One suggestion would be to carry a 5 gallon gas tank then run the Jeep till it's out of gas. Check the trip gauge and the fuel gauge to give an idea of maximum range then you'll know next time.
