Best things I can recommend:
- Accel cap and rotor
- Granatelli spark plug wires (They are absolutely incredible....)
- E3 Diamondfire plugs
- Cold air intake
- Bored throttle body (Contact member: Thexjfiles on this forum, he does great work
- Better flowing exhaust (Performance-curve.com)
- Make sure your tires are properly aired up for street driving
- Run a fuel system cleaner through your Jeep
- #784 injectors

I have a 2000 classic with the 4.0 and auto. Its lifted 4" on 31s. Im getting about 12mpg city and 14 hiway. Any tricks for bringing that up? One of the guys i work with has a stock 96 with 5 speed. He claims 23 hiway. I know i lose with the auto and big tires but should i really lose 10mpg with this setup?

I read the article about the supercharger setup. Its a nice idea but not practical to spend 4k to get 3mpg.
No cap and rotor to change. Coil packs directly on the plugs. (A 2000-2002 feature)
I am thinking about the new injectors. Im sure they are stock. Like everything else under the Hood. Thanks everyone for ideas. The search for more MPG continues.

No he is not BSing you. I get 11mpg everyday driving and 23mpg on the hiway. No BS. Just got back from a 150 mile drive...23mpg. I get 11mpg around town...consistently, over a period of 6 months of checking the mpg. I been driving 42 years and I drive like what I am...an old man. I have a fresh tune up and I know how to check mpg and I guarantee you my figures are accurate. I can't explain it, its just that way.
For sure, O2 sensor performance is in the mix and all the new plugs and wires or aftermarket bolt-on stuff isn't gonna impress a wimpy sensor. Makes me wonder if tweaking the O2 is possible to eek out better fuel mileage. I'll be calculating MPGs ASAP and make that change if I don't get 22 mpg or better.

I did a t-stat change a couple of months back. Dropped from a 192 to a 180. I only recently started tracking MPG again. IMHO if an injector change gives better throttle response than its more than squat. But the o2 sensor is now in my crosshairs. Im sure the relatively small expense couldn't hurt anything. Now on to those pesky u-joints in the front axle.
I normally travel short trips,7 miles, to work in my stock '01.I have a scangauge which tracks mileage and I see 14-15 mpg. Went to Florida pulling my 2000 lb boat, running at 70 and had one day averaging 25.
