Default Frying starter & Alt.

I have a 96 cherokee and every time i hit a water hole at speed or a deep one, i end up frying my starter. If it not the starter then the alternator will fry. i've replaced each one twice in a years time. I'm guessing there is a short but i know enuff to get me in trouble. I have no trouble until it seems something gets wet. its all ways been one or the other but not both @ the same time. i havent seen any bare wires but like i said i know just enuff to get me into some trouble when it comes to the electrical set up. any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
