How can I test and/or fix the wiring issue that causes the front speakers in the front of my 2001 Cherokee to go in and out. They will work and then not work kinda just matter what bumps I hit or what the Cherokee decides it wants to do.
I have the panels off and the speakers out. They do not look like the cause.. (they look like crappy 10 year old speakers but not the cause of the issue)

your wire are probly worn out from your door opening and closing through the years..my left speaker doesnt work you probly just need to rewire your front door speakers..
Most likely it is the speakers. We have multiple XJ's that had the same problem as your having. Speakers were old and didn't look like they were bad. The connectors on the back going to the cones go bad. Just get a replacement set and install them. If it's not the problem, atleast you upgraded them while you had it apart and can continue troubleshooting. The stock speakers sound like crap anyway. Good luck.

This is a common problem on the XJs. It IS the wiring from your head unit to the speakers themselves. I just fixed my buddy's left front the other day and my 2000 has both fronts out. Replace the wires from the the head unit plug to the speaker and you will be golden.

start by removing the door panel and pull the connectors off the speaker. They are probably oxidized and not making a good connection. This is the first and easiest place to start.

I rewired mine and connected the new wires to the old connectors. The speakers still didn't work right so i removed the connectors and soldered the new wires directly to the speaker and now they work good (or as well as the old factory speakers can work!)

I had the same issue when I put NEW speakers in the front doors... they would work fine then cut out whenever they wanted to... come to find out, the positive and negative connections were actually touching the metal of the speaker opening on the door... mind you I have 6 1/2's in my doors. I rotated the speaker and made new holes. I also covered the connections on the speakers. No more issues.
Best fix is to get some Q-Logic kick panel pods. They make a 5 1/4" and 6 1/2" versions. Easily found on Ebay.

ok great stuff, thanks for replies.
How do I get to the wiring that goes through the door?? Do I need to remove the kick panel on the passenger side?? I know its the wiring but I dont know how to properly get to it.
I just dont want to cause a bigger issue to fix a $5 speaker issue.
