im just wondering how many people dont run sway bars on the front or/and rear. im thinking of taking mine off for now to see how it rides.

 

leave the front one on. rear one u can remove without any ill effects.

i took the rear off and swear it handled better, less jerking body roll... but maybe not...

 

I do not have my rear hooked up and it is fine. I drove with the front disconnected about 15 miles to the store and back and it was pretty sloppy and a little scary since the road had a lot of curves. I would never drive a long distance without the front sway bar.

 

i dont run sway bars.

but the safe thing to do would be to atleast run the fronts

 

im thinking about throwing my front sway bar back in cause i wont be going offroading alot cause i dont have alot of time but my jeep is my dd so i think immaa throw mine back in after that thread lol

 

I like sway bars, especially if your XJ is a DD....

 

I don't run swaybars but I only use my XJ for wheeling, I live close to the trails, and the fastest speed limit on the way there is 40. If I were to go any distance to wheel I would consider putting my front back on. Although I agree that it is definitely safer to run with a front swaybar I think that the amount of danger you are in by taking it off depends on the build of your jeep. Mine does not sway too much without it and I have done several emergency braking tests and have never felt out of control. I know a guy with an XJ where if he takes his front disconnects off it is very tippy and downright scary to drive on the road. If he were to slam on the breaks at any speed it would be all over the place. My point is that most people on here have various modifications to their jeeps that make them handle differently so you cannot simply ask what works for others and expect it will work the same for you. If you want to take your swaybar off to see how it rides go ahead, just do it somwhere where you minimize the chance of hurting yourself or someone else.

 

I don't have a front or rear sway bar on my DD. First time it was frightening, I got used to how it feels.

All I see in this picture is a trans cooler, makes me want one. Closest I've come to rolling is going up on two wheels a couple months ago.

 

On my old xj I removed the rear sway bar and could hardly tell the difference made a huge difference in flex offroad though lots of spots that used to have me on 3 wheels I could now keep 4 on the ground. I would leave the front connected though. Also I the more lifted your rig is the more you might want to think about body roll issues...

 

If you like to take offramps at 60 mph you should probably leave them both connected or better yet sell your rig and buy a sportscar. But if you drive reasonably I'd say disconnecting the rear is worth it if you do any wheeling

 

alright im just gonna leave the rear disattached and reattach the front since its a DD to school and i go on curvy and hilly roads.

With my 4.5in lift...drop pitman arm, hd steering stabilizer, hd adjustable trackbar, and custom built long arms I have little to no sway with no sway bars...rides and brakes perfectly...but that's my rig...ever jeep has its quirks and it might not be right on others...dd...id leave the front...I wheel quite often with mine and its not a dd, I didn't want anything preventing my flexability...I've had mine up to 75mph with absolutely no ill sideffects...but again that's my jeep...and not urs!

 

no front bar on mine as it was bent and twisted when i bought the rig. i've also only put may 5K on it in the 2.5 years that i've owned it. but if its you DD just get a set of discos for the front. lot safer.
