Rislone has a use, I stated it RIGHT on, if the top of the engine is not gunked up when looking in the oil fill hole. IT IS USELESS!
Why use something that is going to thin out your oil and might even possibly cause the bearings to fail even faster.

Rislone was ok in the 70's and early 80's.
Why?
Because oil technology was not what it is today. We did not understand exactly why oil properties would gum up, and sometimes it didn't. Engines in the 70's was pretty much toast at 100k miles then too. Partially because of engineering and partially because of oils, and even because of owner neglect.

Back then you mixed quaker state and another brand (I forget what it was now) and the engine would gum up in 3000 miles. I've pulled more than one oil pan of an early 80's car where the oil was thick as pudding.

Regardless, very very few Mechanics in a Can (Rislone, Lucas (that I actually like for rear ends and manual transmissions but not for engines), STP, etc) are a useless item today with modern oils, if you just change it every 3 to 5k miles (8 to 10k for synthetic) engines do not gum up.
One of the reasons is engines today run hotter and burn cleaner so the unburnt hydrocarbons are not gathering in the oil.

I'll be the first to admit fuel injection is my weak point, but I've been working on cars for 25 years and I think I might have learned a thing or two in that time.

take a good thick screwdriver and put your ear to it while holding the tip on different locations to pinpoint noise. you should definitely know if it is your water pump look for play in it. I have had lifter noise in all my 4.0's. RISLONE
