Is it normal for the frontend or t-case to whine in 4-Hi on a 96 Cherokee?? I can't tell if its the t-case or axle from inside the cab, but 4-Lo doesn't do it of course I'm not going very fast in 4-Lo anyway.

Dunno? I put it in 4Hi this morning on the way to work when I found a long stretch of pretty icy road as a test. It was the first time I'd had it in 4HI and actually driven on a road. Low speeds its fine. Get about 15 to 20 and the noise starts.

maybe previous owner ruined your dif. make sure theres fluid in it first, take out the plug and put in your finger. I'd make sure it had fluid before I put it in four wheel drive or before I drove it at all

Hmmm,...well a little embarrassed to admit this, but I had my 4HI and 4LO mixed up. Going 20mph in 4LO is gonna whine obviously.
In my defense, I have my console out finishing up my interior so I don't have my little marker thing in telling me which gear if which. Ooooops.
