I just bought a 2001 xj sport last night (73,231 miles)! During the test drive in four wheel drive I turned and heard a rubbing sound. It continued even after straightening the wheels! I took it out of 4H and it went away.I first thought the tires were the problem but they are stock size. Then I thought Universal joints but not the correct sound I would think of. Any ideas? The jeep is a one owner in perfect shape with all records!
Were you on dry pavement when you put it into 4wd?

Part of the time I was on snow/ice. The lady I bought it from is going to have it checked out today. She never used the four wheel drive system! If it snowed she left it in the garage!
Sorry if I'm thread jacking but are axle joints and u-joints the same thing? I'm experiencing very similar problems in 2WD in a straight line on pavement once I hit about 30 mph or so. Currently have the u-joints in the back seat waiting to get put on this week.
